About 35 people of all ages took part in a sponsored walk of Belfast’s Black Mountain on Saturday 17 October to raise funds and awareness for the Don’t Extradite the Basques Campaign.
Guided by experienced mountain-walker Eamon Maguire, and enjoying Saturday’s fine weather, campaign members and supporters explored the mountain and its historic sites – and all in aid of a great cause.
The campaign aims to build public awareness and support for the two Belfast-based Basque activists fighting extradition charges issued by the Spanish authorities, Iñaki de Juana and Arturo Beñat Villanueva.
The participants finished up a great day with soup, sandwiches and drinks at the Farmers’ Inn. The money raised will go towards funding the campaign’s future activities.
The next event being organised is a protest outside the Laganside court in Belfast when Iñaki de Juana’s hearing begins in November.
