17/05 Campaign’s First Public Talk

Last Thursday 35 people attended the first public meeting of the Don’t Extradite The Basques Campaign.

Both Iñaki and Beñat told the audience (from many different political backgrounds) about their cases and Kevin Morrison from the Belfast Basque Solidarity Committee chaired the meeting.

Kevin also explained the general background in the Basque Country and the campaign’s objectives: to get the extradition cases dropped and rise awareness about the repression of political and civil rights in the Basque Country.

Some breaking news arrived during the meeting that the Spanish government is going to ban yet another electoral platform.

The difference this time is that is not a Basque platform but the Internationalist Initiative (www.iniciativainternacionalista.org) lead by the most important Spanish living playwright, 83 year-old Alfonso Sastre.

Those attending proposed various ideas for the campaign and the first working meeting will take place on Wednesday 20th May at 6.15pm in the Whiterock Children’s Centre, 91 Whiterock Road, Belfast.

Great to see the profile of the Basque situation being raised in Ireland. If anybody can understand what’s going on in Euskal Herria at the minute it’s the Irish. All the best with the campaign.

    Aupa! Hi!
I hope that with this campaign Iñaki’s situation is solved!!!There is no right what they are doing to him and to his family. All my support to him and his reason. I will try to help the maximum that I could from Euskal Herria. Also all my support for Beñat. And finally, honor and glory for the Irish people.
